Beautycounter Skin Care: The Safer Skin
When I first got pregnant, my skin straight up revolted. "Haggard" is word that came to mind when I shot a glance in the mirror. Dry, blemishy, splotchy...the lines they were a showin'.....an overall sense of B L A H. I immediately went on a mad hunt for a skincare line that was not only effective, but safe for myself and Pip. The selection is pretty darn limited for pregnant skin considering I was no longer able to slather my mug in Retin A or that monthly chemical peel ritual I've grown to love so. My gal pal had mentioned Beautycounter skin care a while back and I was skeptical just because you know...seemed like another gimmick...even though quite a few friends of mine use it and L O V E it. Anyhow, I went to a little Beautycounter Skin Care party slash presentation and boom. Sold. Sold like nobody's business. And here's why...first and foremost she had me download this app that more or less slaps you right between the eyes and sheds light on how UNSAFE our products are in the US (yes, there's margins of error but you get a pretty solid idea of what's in your products). It's a little mind boggling gang---I'm talking 85k chemicals have been introduced to the market since the 1930's and only E L E V E N have been banned. You read that right....11. Meanwhile Europe has since banned 1400....just seems all wrong considering our skin is our largest organ. Here we all are trying to lead a healthy lifestyle what with organic foods, non toxic cleaners, working out and yet, I scanned Chase's "All Natural" cleanser with this newfound app and it more or less got a big F- in regards to safety...meaning it basically contains a boatload of these Chemicals. Which is beyond scary considering my sweet 11 year old had been diligently washing her face with it for several months. Not any more. I tried a T O N of samples and researched Beautycounter skin care Mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. This rigorous process handpicks the best ingredients and rejects the not so swell stuff, including more than 1,500 questionable or harmful ingredients that they will NEVER USE. And so after several weeks, I went ahead, took the plunge, and ordered the whole Beautycounter skin care kit n kaboodle. That was about 5 months ago and I couldn't be more pleased with the products...or my mug for that matter. And since I get quite a few inquires on my skincare...no time like the present to break it down for y'all.
Let me preFACE (no pun) this breakdown with a little back story. Really, gang, my skin ain't that great. As many of you know, I grew up in South Florida filled with a wonderful childhood of weekends on the boat and the beach...and sunburns. Lots of sunburns. It's almost inevitable you'll have sun damaged skin if you're a Florida Cracker. Couple that with the fact that I have Irish ancestry--read: FRECKLES and I'm...duhn duhn duhhhhhhnnnn 38 years old. With those fun facts in mind, I'm crazy diligent about correcting the damage I did while in my teens and early 20s and am very picky when it comes to my skincare. I need that I S H to W O R K! And THIS Beautycounter skin care does. So if you're to start with a plan of attack, may I suggest the following Beautycounter skin care products:
Nourishing Cream Cleanser. I love the feel and texture of this product and that it does N O T dry my skin out. It purifies my skin without stripping it. Use this bad boy twice a day.
Facial Oil. Um. Gang. Getcha some of this S T A T. If it was cost effective to slather this all over the bod, I would. I'm OBSESSED with face oils and this is the one to beat. I use on my face, neck, décolletage twice a day UNDER my moisturizer and makeup. It's lightweight yet still very moisturizing and I believe it's what gives my skin that dewy, fresh look.
Nourishing Day Cream. Perfectly complements the above two. Not too heavy, but enough substance to keep my mug hydrated. I'm currently using in the dead heat and it's N O T clogging my pours. At all.
Rejuvenating Eye Cream. Y'all may remember I put out an APB for a good eye cream that reduces dark circles. This one came highly recommended. So far so good, gang. I'm not going to give it my 100% seal of approval Y E T only because I think I need to give it more time (only been using for a few weeks) but thus far, I'm a fan. Stay tuned.
And the last two products I've got en route to my crib that have been receiving rave reviews are both the Cleansing Balm (read reviews) and Countermatch Lotion...apparently this stuff is all the rage and sells out quickly so I ordered them both TODAY! And lastly, once baby boy arrives, I definitely intend to slather his sweet skin in their Baby Products. Alright, gang, I think that's enough chatter for today...and full disclosure, while this post is not sponsored, I did decide to join the BeautyCounter Team within the last two weeks as I'm super passionate not only about the products and how well they're working for my fam, but their continuous mission to get safer products into the hands of us gals! Please do let me know if I can answer any additional information about the products seersuckerandsaddles@gmail.com. Cheers to your Sunday, gang, make it a great one--feel free to shop some of my fave jammies below!
