Me vs. Pinterest (and Why Pinterest Wins Every Time)

Every year, like clockwork, I hit a serious style slump right around now. Maybe it’s the weird in-between weather, maybe it’s that everything in my closet suddenly feels… blah. Or maybe it’s just that Mother Nature can’t decide if we’re doing spring or winter this week. Either way—I’m uninspired, stuck, and reaching for the same black leggings and oversized sweatshirt every. single. day.

I recently found myself deep in a pinning spiral (you know the kind), saving everything from monochrome layers to oversized blazers, denim-on-denim, and the coziest transitional outfits. This time, though, I actually challenged myself to recreate a few of my favorite looks using pieces I already owned (plus a few new finds I couldn’t resist).

I’m sharing a few of my favorite recreations in this post, with links so you can shop them for yourself. But more than that, I wanted to talk about how Pinterest has helped me break out of the winter-to-spring fashion fog.

This look is a cozy take on casual chic, inspired by one of my recent Pinterest saves. I paired a textured navy sweater with a flowy satin midi skirt for the perfect balance of relaxed and refined. A light blue baseball cap and white sneakers keep it playful and sporty, while a structured tan bucket bag pulls it all together. It's an easy, elevated outfit that feels comfortable but still polished—ideal for everything from errands to casual meetups.

Here’s how I use it to get unstuck:

  • I create a seasonal style board with looks I’d actually wear (not just things that look good in theory)

  • I study what I’m drawn to—color combos, layering, silhouettes

  • I make a short list of gaps in my closet—things that would help pull those looks together

  • Then I play dress-up in front of the mirror until something works

THIS OUTFIT is proof that basics don’t have to be boring. I started with a classic denim-on-denim combo—a timeless look that always works—and layered it with a rich suede blazer for added texture and warmth. The straight-leg jeans and chambray shirt keep things casual, while leopard-print flats bring just the right amount of pattern and personality. A structured leather bucket bag and oversized sunglasses finish the look, adding polish and a little downtown edge. It’s my go-to for days when I want to feel pulled together without trying too hard.

It’s not about copying exactly. It’s about seeing your closet with fresh eyes.

And if you recognize any of the original creators behind the outfits I pinned, let me know—I’d love to give proper credit and a big thank-you for the style inspo.

This full black-on-black moment starts with a ribbed cropped tank from SET Active that’s equal parts flattering and functional. The cutout hem adds a little edge, and the high-waisted leggings pull everything together—literally. They hug in all the right places, making the whole silhouette feel sleek without trying too hard.

I kept it simple on top with a black baseball cap (a must for day-three hair and no-makeup mornings), and finished it off with my current favorite sneakers—Nike Air Max 270s in white, black, and a hit of purple. They're sporty enough for errands, but stylish enough that they elevate the whole vibe.

Topped it all off with a simple gold pendant necklace for that tiny hint of polish. Because yes, I’m wearing activewear—but we’re still doing intentional.

This is the kind of look I’ll keep on repeat—especially when I’m not quite ready to get dressed-dressed, but still want to feel pulled together and inspired to move (even if that movement is just toward iced coffee).

This layered look is giving classic prep with a playful twist. A cozy navy knit is layered over a crisp striped button-down for effortless polish, while a bright silk scarf at the neckline adds that perfect pop of color. Cropped denim and chic ballet flats keep the outfit relaxed and wearable, and the printed Dior tote brings in just the right amount of statement. Piled-on bangles and oversized sunnies finish it off with personality. It’s easy, elevated, and very Pinterest board-worthy.
